Kens Stag Trip - Day 4 (Old Military Road)
Up bright and early with puffy eyes and fuzzy head i ambled to breakfast with Ken laughing at me. We'd planned a 170 mile route heading mostly south from Grandtown on Spey to Motherwell, where we'd load the bikes and drive 300miles home. i needed a big breakfast..
As i went to load the CB1300 i noticed i had a flat front tyre, balls! I was carrying no tyre filler, puncture repair kit or pump. The nearest tyre garage was 1hr north or 2hr south.
Will looking pensive on the edge of his seat.
I like to a pack a Paul B with me on these trips rather than tools, he's always the last to be ready and the last on with his helmet. Fortunately he's the original mild mannered boy scout, always packing the right tools and the first person you need in such situations. In about 20mins he'd fixed it.
We were off.
The route planned took us over 'The old military road' its described here in fine detail and is easily one of the best roads in the UK. Its not just the quality of the road its self, an 83mile wet dream for the biker, but the scenery is simply breath taking.
Ken photo bombing (see him laughing!)
Paul contemplating the road. See it curving over the hills in the distance? I wonder what he was thinking...'I hope the woman ive got stashed in my bag makes it home?'
This is the road that keeps on giving. Its a magnificent route and we passed a large number of hairy arsed bikers taking pictures too. (of the scenery ;-) ) If you ride, this is a road to put your bucket list.
A castle near Balmoral, one of the many littering the Scottish countryside. It must have been a time of great turmoil and unrest to make a nation build so many fortifications.
We stopped for a quick break after 2hrs at a public toilet manned by a security guard. You paid 50p and he handed you a ticket to enter! To be honest, i dont hang around toilets, but still feel qualified to comment that this was really nice one and worth 50p (haha). Complete with display flowers, heating and scented air.
Just look how happy i am hanging around outside the toilet in my tight leather jeans.
I was actually pleased as i'd just pumped my tyre up and it was holding enough air to do the rest of the route.
1hr15m later we left the all the good stuff behind and headed into motherwell to loads the vans. 4hr30m after that we arrived back at my house to tuck into take away and beers.
A really great trip lads, perhaps the best we've ever done in the UK. Thank you all.
Some other stylized pic's the phone enhanced and thought i'd like to see...
A vid that my phone assembled of it own accord...
