Overland Trail Tours
Later this morning we'll be meeting our guide Boyd and doing a 100 mile loop of the Peak District, but now It's 6 45am and Jasons telling me to get up. Yesterday we were at the Nottingham Beer Festival and I do not feel good. What fool goes to a beer festival the day before 100 miles on a motorbike??
Pack the van and an hour and a half and few wrong turns later we reach Boyd's HQ http://www.overlandertrailtours.co.uk. He's a really nice chap, after a brief chat and a cuppa we're ready to go.
Below, the route.
Boyd has planned the route including pit stops and lunch, no maps or GPS, just a big friendly fella on big XR650. Straight away the route is scenic, but too fast to stop for pictures.
First stop. The only village shop for miles.
Can you tell what year this is ?
We continue following the big XR for a couple of hours and find ourselves at this biker friendly pub for lunch. Food was excellent and the interior has an eclectic collection of many things.
Boyd keeps a fast pace, he's as a capable as the XR he rides and he was even happy for us to ride it. Its a powerful monster, but being fed by carburetors the power delivery is smooth as a banana milkshake.
The lanes came thick and fast, some were along the TET route that passes through the area.
His local knowledge was stellar. The whole day was fantastic and having a guide took the pain out of mapping.
Boyd watched our decents and hill climbs and gave tips on riding which made the day educational and not just sight seeing.
By five we were back at his HQ for another cuppa and then we were off. Decided to stay in Buxton tonight.
This is where Jason wanted to stay! Its got Como written all over it, expensive, so he sent me in to barter to save himself the embarrassment
Thankfully it was full!
Instead I found a nice cheap little place owned and run by a couple of serial killers. They were so eager for us to stay, reminded me of a scene from the league of gentlemen. Should be fun!
