ABR: Wainwrights Walk Day 1.
Killing a few minutes and dreaming of warmer days spent on motorbike travel I noted ABR had an article on great British routes. Two of them immediately floated my boat: 'The three highest pubs' and 'Wainwrights walk'.
With the seed planted I just needed to find the time, and find the time I did.
Below, north Yorkshire Dales near Kirkby Stephen.
The Wainwrights walk route starts at Robin hood's bay on the east coast, north of Scarborough, and finishes at St Bee's in the Lake District. It meanders through the moors, dales and eventually the lakes, loosely following one of Wainwrights walks.
With a willing companion, on her new bike, and favours called in for children and dog sitting, we were footloose and free for four days!
Below, Robin hood's rock / knob / phallus?
I'd recently done a couple of day trips on the Africa Twin, but was really looking forward to stretching her legs and testing the tank range. It registers 360 miles when brimmed!
We took our time as Sarah got used to the CRF300. It was her first longer trip on the new steed and we gingerly picked our way along the north side of the moors.
I must say its a lot easier traveling with with someone on a larger bike. The previous WR125 and the Africa Twin were not natural stablemates and i was constantly losing her, but the two Honda's made for an easier time.
Above, a little ford to cross. She looks like a professional in the photo and it only took five minutes of persuasion to get her to do it๐ (well maybe two minutes) You can't see it in the photo, but there was an small audience hopeful of some wet pant action.
It was a brilliant day for it and, after a brief stop for lunch, we finished the moors and made our way into the dales. I love North Yorkshire.
We'd set off from Scarborough at about 11am and by 4:30 were ready for dinner. Which, incidentally, turned out to be fish and chips in bed washed down with a pint a Timothy Tailors Landlord! (Living the highlife, I knows how to treat them ladies. ๐)
Stopping in Kirby Stephen high street and walking into the first pub, the friendly barmaid rented us her last available room and we were sorted for the evening.
