Motocamp Bulgaria
I’d heard about Motocamp Bulgaria several years ago, though I don’t remember exactly how, maybe a blog, perhaps a podcast, a Google search, or just word of mouth. I just knew I wanted to go.
Motocamp is a well known hub and internationally recognized meeting point for motorcycle travellers. I could barely contain my excitement at the prospect of visiting and I felt like a child at Christmas.
There’s a central table where everyone gathers, swapping information, solving problems, or just laughing over beers from the well stocked honesty fridges.
There was a 72 Yr old Canadian who spoke a lot and travels more, a quiet French guy on CFMoto 450 a Finnish chap and group of English chaps who'd travelled the TET for weeks.
The chap pictured below is Antonie, from the Netherlands. He’s been part of the Motocamp story for six years, keeping a bike there like so many others. On this trip, he was taking the bike away for good, a bittersweet departure for him.
One element I didn’t expect was the number of British expats living in the small village or nearby town. Many visited that evening. The camp seems to function like a local pub might in England. Some of them were retired, having once travelled or still doing so to some extent. Others were younger, actively planning round-the-world trips, sharing routes and bike storage ideas around the table.
I loved it. It made me tick. It filled me with ideas and enthusiasm. I want it to be part of my story.
And indeed, it will be. We’ve stored the bikes (and Sarah) in the barn, so we’ll return.
It’s a great city with a chilled-out feel, despite the heat.
For now the story pauses. We will return soon.
