Welsh Birthday Tour Day 2
This evening we would sleep on rubber mattresses behind an 8ft spiked fence. ...and we didn't even get arrested. Exciting!
It was still dark i awoke this morning and heard muffled voices talking in the dingy apartment. Paul B was fully kitted and trying escape when Ken had noticed him. For his own reasons he had decided to depart and head home. He will be missed this year.
The September day was hot and clear, the sky emerald blue as we set off for long day in the saddle. Travelling in zigzags from the south of Wales via the Brecon beacons to Aberystwyth for lunch, then to the North via the Snowdonia national Park to Prestatyn. The route was fantastic, showcasing the very best of south and mid Wales, I must learn how to upload the routes to the blog.
There wasn't time for much talking, just riding, concentrating on the next apex, and gawping at the beautiful country.
A highlight of the day was detouring via Colwyn Bay to meet Barrie, from Raid Assist, for a catch up and to plan an African trip this coming year. Good see you my friend, looking forward to 2021!
Today's travelling left us in the north with only one option for a room...
It was here in a 1970s prison style Pontins Holiday camp, in a room with rubber mattresses and no 'luxuries' such as towels , soap, bedding (or electric initially) that we would call home. I did enquire about the luxuries and was told that my booking included bed sheets (hurrah!) Electric (woohoo!), but that they "hadn't done soap or towels for over decade" said a tired looking member of staff staring blankly over her COVID facemask. On the plus side, the room was £15 each!
