Romania Day 3 - Bucharest
This photo was taken after we were diverted off the main road by Police. They'd blocked the carriageway which left us looking for alternative routes. It was probably the riding highlight of the day!
Our destination this evening is Bucharest, more specifically we had a reservation at Caru cu Bere, a restaurant I'd been told about by Englishman in Scotland.
It did not disappoint, we had a house specialty accompanied by at stein of beer, Romanian dancing and all set in this fantastic old building.
I may have enjoyed the beer a little too much, as later I booked an electric scooter that almost ended in a trip to hospital for both of us.
Bucharest is a huge metropolis with, erm ... 'interesting' traffic practices, it took concentration and a dollop of luck to reach the old town. We stayed at Central Guesthouse for the princely sum of £30 and were able to park behind their secure metal fence.
Like a scene from a disaster movie, and whilst enjoying the scenery, everybody's mobile phones started making an alert sound. The government were warning all those in Bucharest about the impending rain. Wow does it know how to rain here!!
The old town, as you might imagine, is attractive, but what i didn't expect were the numerous strip and massage parlours! Seems out of place to me, but must be stag-do-tastic.
Aside from the make shift bridge we'd crossed earlier in the day, the ride had been largely uneventful.
Easy travelling through the hot countryside and the endless farm land. Occasionally a town would pop up and surprise with dogs, horses or odd architectural choices.
Above and below, our starting point today. I did the off road route from the hotel whilst Sarah took the road after the rain in the night.
Below, the view from our cabin at the resort. A storm was blowing over Bulgaria, perhaps fortuitous we didn't up there yesterday?
