Romania Day 6 - Dog and Cows and Doru

We stayed in a suite in Pensiune Daniel last night. Yep, they actually named a hotel after me in Sibiu. Nice.

We also spotted a Hotel Sarah on a previous day, but the stars didn't quite align and we couldnt stay.

We met Barrie and Team Raid Assist in the morning. Some of the Romaniac riders were still racing and Barrie, with Geoff, who I last saw in Senegal, West Africa, were going to see the finale. We dropped Sarahs luggage off and set out for an off-road loop through the mountains.

The Romaniacs racing was still in effect and whilst on route through the hills, we were stopped by the police to let the racers blast over the road.

There's so many dirt tracks in the mountains, and to the sound track of two stroke racing, we found our own and explored.

In scenes akin to India, we passed cows on the road four separate times. On non of the occasions was there a farmer. These cows were free roaming, just like the bears and numerous dogs we'd encountered.

On the topic of dogs, Romania has some of the biggest dogs Ive seen. Their original role was apparently to protect farmers herds from bears. However, they seem to have bread freely and now wander about menacingly chasing anything they don't like. We saw some sleeping on the road and we saw some rotting in the road.

I passed a big one yesterday and innocently mentioned to Sarah that it was massive and looked hungry. I don't think she enjoyed passing it.

On the way back to Sibiu we stopped in at Motocamp Sibiu. (Above and below) It's owned by a modest, genuinely friendly and incredibly generous chap called Doru. Id never met Doru in person, only via email and text. But our paths crossed through a contact on the Horizons Unlimited website. Doru has offered to store my Motorbike in Romania so that I can attempt to ride it home to England later in the summer.

Oddly enough the Thai traveller from Brasov has just left.

Back at the Romaniacs car park, we loaded Sarah's bike with Barrie and said our fairwells. A final walk through the old town for food before we fall upon the mercy of air traffic control Europe.

Romania was rich and vibrant, but incredibly affordable. I suspect we'll be back.
