Germany

Day Trip: Mittenwald, Bavaria → Camping Herrenwies, Black Forest (~250 miles)

Below, Plansee. Pretty as a picture.

It was cold when we woke up, but the weather report promised improvement the further northwest we went, bundled up in everything we'd brought, we set off.

Mittenwald was a delight and verything you'd imagine from a Bavarian village. The only thing missing was a Christmas market, but since it’s July, i'll let that slide.

Following the Deutsche Alpenstraße, we passed Plansee with vivid turquoise waters, so bright looked like an Instagram filtered photo to me, but entirely natural in this case.

As the miles rolled by, the weather improved and the beautiful German countryside slowly unfolded.

The radio chatter suggested we both enjoyed it equally. At one point, Sarah remarked, “If you haven’t seen Bavaria, you haven’t lived.” That pretty much sums up how highly we regard this part of the world.

Stopped for a roadside packed lunch in Messkirch—a random town we just happened upon. Bloody lovely again.

After 9.5 hours on the road, including a chilly ride through the Black Forest, we arrived at our destination: Camping Herrenwies. Our host, Daniel, and his wife kindly let us set up camp right at reception due to our chill, where the sun was still shining.

Braking out the treats, tonight’s dinner was a deluxe Lidl banquet cooked on the petrol stove. Yes sir, i know how to treat the ladies.

A long day on the road, but one to remember.
