Thrifty Fifty - Sarlat and Camp Moto Dordogne

Day 3 – 216 miles: Châtillon to Sarlat

Accommodation – MotoCamp Dordogne

It was a little later in the day, just after the town of Sarlat, when the rain permanently stopped. Around that time my satnav decided to launch itself from the bike in an apparent suicide attempt. I later found it face down in a puddle, drowning. RIP Zumo XT, you died as you lived, finding new places.

Above and below two separate Boulangerie stops!

Impromptu off roading when the route was barred. Ken was not so pleased.

The roads today were excellent, twisting over undulating landscapes for 200 miles of biking paradise. Although, at times the rain came down so hard it distorted vision, while passing trucks added to the challenge by showering us with road run-off.

Luckily there were clear spells, like the one experienced during Sarlat,.

Sarlat is a fabulously preserved medieval town in the Dordogne region, part of the golden triangle alongside Bergerac and Périgueux – all renowned ‘foodie’ towns. You can find cheeses, wine, and foie gras in abundance, but I couldn’t find a Pocket Monster for love nor money!

Our destination for the night was Camping Moto Dordogne. We were greeted by Hans, the proprietor, with a handshake and a free beer. I’d been pointed his way by Anita, the owner of Moto La Grange in northern France, and had already been in contact with him.

Above, our lovely host, Hans, and below his bar where beer flows like a moutain river.
Hans’ place is everything a biker needs after a long day in the saddle: swimming pool, cabins, a bar, and a hearty three-course meal.

Below, our accommodation for the night.

We dined amongst 15 bikers from different parts of the world, the beer flowing as freely as the conversation.

Paul B even let slip a few secrets as the alcohol loosened his tongue. Later we touched on a conversational faux pas, politics amd brexit.  Perhaps tomorrow in Lourdes we can debate religion around the devout.

The whisky that Ken asked for!

A great day and night.

Today's route.
