Like Christmas Eve.
It's 6:30am the day before we fly to Geneva and I can't sleep. I'm awake and excited like a child on Christmas Eve.
Yesterday Jason and I met at the BikeShuttle depo and dropped the bikes off. The chap there made everything easy; role up, sign a piece of paper, handover log book, key and riding kit, done! The bikes will be reaching Switzerland about now and I've got one more day of work to get through.
Jason's taking a 2016 KTM 500 on which he's lowered the ride height, fitted a larger tank, fettled other bits and got the usual spares. (Levers, inner tube, etc)
Here's his lad, Henry, showing a keen interest and skill in bike mechanics
The KTM feels a lot lighter than the DRZ and I'm eager to try it, I've even been looking on eBay for one of my own.
The DRZ is sorted for now. Steering bearings done, oil change, new GPS fitted, new mirror, suspension tweaked. The front forks are heavily corroded and will need replacing after this next trip.
We are both packinga lot lighter this time, me especially. Tools, spares and one or two clothes changes, that's it . Our idea is to cover more ground, up early & no faffing with the bike, just hit the trails with as much off road sections as possible. In keeping with travelling light Jason has lost weight (half the man) and I've been doing more cardio at the gym. We're fighting fit.
We spent almost the entire journey to the BikeShuttle depo on the phone talking about bikes, adventuring and adventure company ideas.....
...Did I mention we are excited?!
