Adventure Lids

Having toured (suffered) with googles and MX helmet for over a year i was keen to try a different lid.  For the uninitiated, an MX lid is light and airy, but when it rains the rain hits your nose with such force it stings your face. When the weather is good every insect in the area seems to find its way into your ears, the googles always narrow your field of vision and it just doesn't make for a comfortable experience.

Lots can be said of the benefits of internet shopping, but the format does not lend itself well helmet shopping.   Thankfully one of the biggest retailers on the web SportsBikeShop is located about an hour from my home in Boston, Lincs.   The shop is connected to their warehouse and they bring anything out you want to try. Amazing.

I tried everything, but the lid that caught everyone's attention as it was brought out in a black Starwars box, was this, the X-Wing Fighter Helmet!  Modelled by my daughter, all of the patrons, being middle aged men, were asking questions about it.

I settled on the Scorpion ADX-1 Flip front Adventure lid, as seen in the first picture at the top of this post.

Dual visors, pinlock fog insert, flip front, removable peak, quick release fitting that can be used with one gloved hand, enough ventilation.     The first thing i noticed was the increased field of view over the googles. Brilliant. After trying the helmet on a 120mile ride, being able to flip the front when you're panting is a great addition.

The negatives; the peak would be better if it were adjustable or longer, the closing strap is quite close to your neck, its heavier than the MX lid.

I wont be taking the MX lid again.
