Day 2 Dolomites.

The view that greeted us in the morning was spectacular!

David's little farm was perched high on the side of a hill at the start of the dolomites. Arriving as late as we did last night you couldn't appreciate it, but this morning, bathed in warm sunshine, we took stock.

I must admit it wasn't out fastest morning, taking a leisurely 4hrs from waking to road ready.  The TET meanders around hills moving from hair pin to pin and climbing to 2000m. It's was 30degrees in the valleys and the cooler air was welcomed.

Like Hobbits from Lord of the Rings, we'd really only just got going when our thoughts turned to lunch.  Middle age and  the have a belly to work on and just on the brink of starvation a suitable little bistro came into view atop the hill. (It's a difficult life)

After lunch the largest  dirt track  in the sky  was about 15miles long. Most of the TET was small tarmacked roads with a few gnarly forest trails.  Not really what we wanted so decided to head back to the surf bus.

The mountain villages were pretty and the roads curled like snakes down to the villages. Motorbiking is big here and on more than one occasion we passed some speeding knobhead biker on the wrong side of the road searching for an early grave.
We took it easy.

Had to stop and take a snap of the hermitage above.

The hermitage is located at Trambileno, near Rovereto. It is carved in the rock and can be reached by climbing a flight of 102 steps cut into the rock ledge one access after crossing the gorge of the river Leno. It was built in 1319 and named after Irish saint Columban, who lived between 543 and 615. As the legend goes, he took over the cave after killing the dragon who previously inhabited it

Reaching the surf bus we loaded up and pointed west, destination Slovenia.
