French TET23 Day6
By chance we'd approached Chambord Castle from the front elevation. You travel through kilometres of forest without so much as a peak. Then the magnificent building looms into view, we both involuntarily said 'wow!'
King Louis I ordered it's construction to showcase his wealth to visiting sovereigns. I think he just about nailed it, though I'd add a tower or two. 😉
Our day started as normal with a leisurely breakfast, this time in Borges. We both agree Borges is the nicest town we've visited. A perfect mix of size and architecture with a relaxed and safe feel as you amble carelessly through the medieval street maze.
Baking is how I'd describe the weather. We only stopped in the shade for brief moments, the sun constantly threatening to turn us into dehydrated fruits.
Sarah is in the photo above, just dwarfed by the turbine.

Our destination this evening is Orleans. We rented a small loft room and had to ride our bike through the building to stash them in the courtyard! Hooligan!

The city is famous for Joan Of Arc, who stayed their and played a pivotal role whilst Orleans was under siege. She's the Patron Saint of France. Theres statutes in her honour, streets and churches named after her, clearly the original 'it' girl. Eat your heart out Kim Kardashian!!
I wonder if she could sing or perhaps good at shopping? The yard stick by which we measure our modern 'heroes'.
Easily the largest city we've visited this trip and it's rather beautiful if you stick to the old quarter and main streets. However, if you venture out of it then it's busy, bursting with traffic, people (young men loitering) and shit buildings. Obviously they got the cathedral right though.
