Germany - Bavaria

Last night at dinner overlooking the city the waiter sat me at the loner table. As in, a table reserved for those that dine alone.  During conversation with my four new mates (two German musicians, one English lady dog sitting and a man that joined later)  it was suggested I should see the königssee and Roßfeldstraße.

Roßfeldstraße is a toll road mountain pass, it was €5.50 and worth the money. The road was empty, the view spectacular, I was king of the road.

Next up was königssee, a mountain lake translated as Kings Sea. Named by one of the german kings who declared it a Sea and his alone. There's a particular spot that photos are taken from, but I had sneaked the bike down the footpath passed the gates and dare not push my luck.  Good to see, though it was extremely popular with holiday makers.

After the 'sea' I started following the Deutsch Alpinestrauss, a route id downloaded in full, that's happens to start at Königssee.

The Deutsch Alpinestrauss is a bavarian  475km route that flirts with Austrian border, always close, but never touching.

In my humble opinion it's a 'must do' biking bucket list item. A wonderful winding path through some of  the best of Bavaria.  Its even signposted! Got to love the Germans.

Just look at the views!

Like the lure of a Siren, the sight and smell of a traditional mountain side bierhaus tempted me for lunch. Why does it look like Ive got a handlebar mustache! I just need leather pants to complete the look.

Mentally, I'd previously just connected Bavaria with 'hills'.  That association has now changed and will forever  be 'lakes'. There's loads of them and the Germans are holidaying around the water in droves.  What you cant see in the picture above, due to cropping, is the guy with his knob out, stark bollock naked just stood in the water next to the road.

I've done approximately 300 miles today due to the tourist trail at the beginning and then a detour this evening. I was supposed to be staying at neuschwanstein castle. Another of mad King Ludwig's creations. ( And beautiful, but I've been before, some nine years ago)

However , it was raining at the lake there, so instead I repeated what we did in France. Look at the sky, point the wheel towards the clear blue and open the throttle.

I'd rather be warm and dry than wet and cultured. Its a nice spot here. They even gave me a free beer.

a 'famous' biking route that you have to pay a toll to use.
