Hungary

From this blinkered view of Hungary, and if you only saw the Wallachian Plain in Romania, you'd think both countries were equal. Though I note a few subtle differences.

1. People here spend less time road watching. There are some oldies glued to the passing traffic, but very few. Perhaps they have better TV (or live shorter lives)

2.Ive been chased by dogs zero times. (No pic - no dogs)

3. Drinking water is marked on the map,.see below. I didn't stick my head under it.

4. The money is different.  Petrol cost me 8,000  and lunch was 4000. (Forint, not GBP thankfully).

I'm no Fred Dibnah, but the first time I saw this chimney I thought the old boy would be turning in his grave. It's an old brick works that's now a campsite and the chimney is the only surviving relic of yesteryear (just!)  The owners are lovely, the site is clean, just don't hang about in reception or the kitchen without a hard hat.

It's a warm evening and I'm sat well away from the roulette chimney near the lake contemplating the day, and there's not much to chew over.

Imagine a trucker who spent the day on clear roads being asked 'how was your day? .. erm.. ' 'drivey', and my day was 'ridey'

It was baking hot and the miles came easy (all 260 of them)  I'm close to the Austrian border and to pass at breakfast tomorrow.

I passed some kind of festival entrance in the morning with huge traffic queues and police presence. (Below) Not a youngsters music festival, a middle-aged gathering of horse loving 'Hungarian Originals' according to the t-shirt I read.

In Romania we played the riveting 'straight road game' and there are some forever roads here too.

However, most excitingly, the land is littered with massive lollipops. The striking Silver sphere is the most common.

I tried to count how many variations of big metal lollipops I could spot. The 'speedy' Rocket variant below.

But I nearly wet my pants with excitement when I saw my first blue stemmed beauty!

I know nothing of the sights of Hungary. I'm just passing through on small roads. I didn't get asked to leave any towns, the people were nice. Ive seen a deer and hares. I've seen loads of bikers and my first alive field of sunflowers in 1200miles (inc Romania, they were all dead.)

Speaking of dead, the marketing team need shooting, look at the choice of menu stand outside the burger bar!

Today's progress below, Hungary, the purple section next to the red. On reflection, and for anyone that's been to Lincolnshire, imagine that, but at 35 degrees.
