Following in the foot steps of giants... and some middle aged guys.

The Long Way Round and Long Way Down have a lot to answer for when it comes to sales of overweight bikes sporting overweight middle aged guys.  I admit though, Charley Boreman and Ewan McGregor also whet my appetite for adventure all those years ago too and when i moved away from  London i promised myself an adventure bike.

Fast forward about decade and Jason sent me a link to the following excellent blogs;

Noah Horak's Adventure

Tough Miles - Round the World on two DRZ's

(really good reads and excellent achievements by the chaps involved!)

Youtube searching turned up these great examples.

  • Mondo Enduro - perhaps the first film of its kind.
  • Races to Places (you tube) by Lyndon Poskitt and AdventureSpec -  Brilliant engineering, racing and round the world adventuring!
  • London to Sydney Motorcycle Adventure (you tube) . Another great example of whats possible.

I also read a multitude of other sources, including Guy Martin's books.  In one he details the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route - 2768 miles and 14.000ft of elevation! The riders sleep rough next to their bikes, riding, sleeping, eating and repeating for weeks on end.

All of this fueled my own spirit and Jasons too it appeared as our conversations often led to discussions on 'country hopping', round the world trips and completing the TET, or at least sections of it.   This latter idea, considering our other responsibilities, seemed like an achievable goal.  So we decided to have a go...
