Ken's Half Century Tour Day 4
Coral Strand, where the whole beech is shells and the water is crystal clear.
The night in Galway was very lively and we quaffed guiness like Irish workmen. It proved a little too much for most of us (ken taking a nap below) We're heading from Galway to Westport today and following the wild Atlantic way.
We set off in pairs at different times governed by hangovers. Ken and I left first and the others met us along the way.
Paul and Paul passed us, but they decided ride to the points above. Ken and I had done the coast points to fill time whilst the groggy old men caught up with us! We didn't see Paul and Paul for the rest of the day.
Stopped at o'douds in Roundstone for some lunch and respite from the weather. The pub is tiny and specialised in fish dishes. View from the pub below.
My phone died in the afternoon, but the riding was world class. The N59 from Roundstone to Westport is easily a top 10 life time ride. We all waxed lyrical about it at the famous Matt Molloy's in Westport, our home for the night.
We ate in a music bar and listened to the standard repertoire of Irish music we listen to every night, it goes 'whisky in the jar', 'galway girl', 'wild rover', 'folsom prison'...and then repeat.
There was a wedding happening and the bride and guests danced and sang with abandon. Unfortunately the hotel was baking hot and the staff ran passed carrying fans to cool the dancing elephants. Love Ireland.
